Big memory reduction with PHP 5.4!

edited March 2012 in Miscellaneous

Just did some testing on my local machine with PHP 5.3.8 versus PHP 5.4.0, and while the execution time for a single request to the Elefant homepage is almost exactly equal (between 10 and 11 milliseconds), the memory usage went down from 1.8MB to just 872KB! That's a 50% savings in memory just by upgrading (not factoring in APC or anything else).

  • I should note that APC also brings the memory usage of a request in PHP 5.3.8 down from 1.8MB to just under 1MB as well, but I haven't tried using APC + PHP 5.4 yet.
