Any thought to using just straight php for the conf files? Since elefant seems to be focused on speed and simplicity, what's simpler and faster then just including the file?
True, but at some point you might want to automate modifying config settings in the browser, in which case PHP-based configuration gets messy. PHP's ini parser is faster than json or yaml (I benchmarked :), and is easy enough to write (see Ini::write() in lib/Ini.php). It's also a bit less intimidating to non-developers than raw PHP :)
